The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication acknowledged on Tuesday that a massive cyberattack had been reported on Pakistani government websites. No data theft, however, has been recorded.
According to the ministry spokesperson, the hacker effort targeted NTC systems, citing Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Amin Ul Haque.
On NTC servers, Haque added, there are web pages for numerous departments, and the cyberattack happened at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The attack was foiled thanks to a comprehensive cyber security system, according to the minister, who also stated that some departments’ websites were automatically suspended as a result of the cyberattack. Within three hours, all of the websites were back to normal, according to the minister.
According to IT Minister Syed Amin Ul Haque, the cyberattack was focused on the network side rather than the data center.
National Technology Council (NTC), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), and Multinet were the main targets, according to a threat intelligence analysis.
On Wednesday (today), the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications convened a conference to gather information from all departments.
It is not the first time that the Govt. institutions are under attack but it has also happened before.
