The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has urged that the government charge both home and business solar system owners.
According to sources, the CPPA-G has forwarded a summary to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
The CPPA-G has proposed implementing a Rs. 2,000 per-kilowatt levy on both residential and commercial solar panel users.
According to sources, users of 12-kilowatt panels will have to pay a tax of Rs. 24,000. The ministry has forwarded the summary to the Prime Minister for approval. Sources added that a proposal for rationalising net metering electricity buyback rates is also being considered.
Once the summary has been approved, an application will be submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to reduce net metering electricity buyback prices.
