Sohail Rajput, the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT), chaired a meeting on 5G technology in Islamabad on this Wednesday.
CEOs and representatives from all four telecom providers, as well as telecom members and other ministry officials, attended the conference.
During the meeting, proposals for the launch of 5G in Pakistan were reviewed, with the Secretary MoITT stating that the government wants a flexible 5G license since 5G technology will help Pakistan and its people. According to the MoITT, the government plans to introduce 5G in the country by 2023.
The consultation’s major goal is to figure out how to make 5G a reality and make its debut a complete success. All of the telecom companies have already voiced their opinions on the proposed policy guidelines.
The Ministry, on the other hand, does not want to make the same mistakes as before and anticipates a win-win situation for everyone.
According to sources, officials from the telecom industry requested that the MoITT rectify the industry’s difficulties before the launch of 5G. Consumers’ spending on the Internet and telephony has decreased as a result of the government’s increasing taxation on telecom users.
5G technology necessitates fiberization, infrastructure development, and other factors, therefore the government will need to take efforts to build the greatest business case possible, which may include lowering telecom taxes.
According to sources, the MoITT concurred with the arguments raised by telecom companies during the discussion. The federal government has already formed an advisory council for the launch of 5G, according to its officials.
The government also informed industry representatives that it will set up a meeting between telecom operators and the Minister of Finance as soon as possible.
