The Excise Department in Islamabad made a record amount of money from vehicle registration and taxes over the past six months.
Source reported that during the first half of FY 2022–23, the excise office collected a record Rs. 9 billion under the head of tax collection and Rs. 5 billion under excise taxes.
Additionally, it collected Rs. 4 billion in FBR taxes. According to Director of Excise Bilal Azam, the provision of public amenities was the cause of the increase in tax revenue. Added him:
The department was able to collect more taxes due to door-to-door registration, online token tax and token tax collection during road checking.
Enforcement of Illegal Number Plates
Future increases in registration fees could be a result of the recent crackdown on illegal number plates.
Following the suicide attack that took place late last month, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, Inspector General (IG) of the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICTP), has issued a security red alert, according to a recent report.
The ICTP issued a warning regarding a harsh crackdown against vehicles with illegal number plates, including bikes, cars, and public transportation, on its official Twitter account.
The department also issued a strict enforcement warning against the public’s possession of weapons or firearms. It has advised citizens to always keep their crucial identification documents on them.
