FIFA President Gianni Infantino has declared his intentions of soon visiting Pakistan. In an interview with Pakistan TV Digital on the sidelines of the 56th annual World Economic Forum held in the Swiss city of Davos, Infantino declared his intentions of visiting Pakistan “very soon.” Infantino declared his intentions of visiting the country in response to a question about his intentions of visiting Pakistan, stating that he had promised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of his intentions of visiting the country, especially with the positive contributions that new management of the Pakistan Football Federation is making.
Purpose and Context of the Visit
Infantino called it “a great football country.” He highlighted the interest of the organization to support the improvement of the country’s stature in Asian football competitions. He also stated how the sport captures the interest of the country’s people, such as the youth, to emphasize the development of the sport. The event is intended to promote the growth of the sport, building on relations with the organization, and the development of infrastructures under the renewed administration of the PFF.
Strengthening Relations Between FIFA and Pakistan
The statement is given during a time when there is an improvement in ties between Pakistan and FIFA. For example, towards the end of 2025, a member of the Pakistani Parliament, Syeda Amnah Batool, was named to the FIFA Institutional Reforms Committee. Moreover, a FIFA senior vice president, Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, visited Pakistan in November 2025 to talk to officials and football leaders about developments in infrastructure for the sport.
