Despite worries that the first Test next week in Rawalpindi may have to be rescheduled in light of last week’s attempted assassination of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Test captain Ben Stokes insists England will trust the ECB security delegation before they travel to Pakistan next month.
Following a vote of no confidence in the national parliament, Imran, the 1992 World Cup champion captain of Pakistan, was removed from his position as prime minister in January. Several others were hurt later when he was shot in the leg during a protest demonstration in the Wazirabad area of the nation.
In the shooting, one individual died. Stokes stated that he and his team would “place 100 percent faith” in longstanding security advisor Reg Dickason, who has been in charge of managing England’s touring operations for more than ten years when questioned about the incident at a news conference.
Stokes remarked, “It was a little shocking to see what occurred last week. Reg Dickason has been in charge of security in England for more than ten years.
“He’s the best man to be on-site to assess the situation. We cannot comment on anything until Reg sends us a report, but the players and the folks accompanying him to Pakistan are certain to trust him. You can rely on him with your life.”
