Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Friday that the microblogging website’s 1.5 billion ghost accounts would be removed due to inactivity.
“Twitter will soon start freeing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts,” the billionaire said on Twitter.
However, the Tesla and SpaceX founder clarified that only accounts with “no tweets and no log in for years” will be deleted.
Musk wrote on Twitter, “These are obvious account deletions with no tweets & no log in for years.”

The Blue tick
Musk, who purchased Twitter in October, has announced several changes to the website, some of which have been heavily criticized by users.
According to Reuters, which cited Information’s report, Twitter planned to raise the price of its Twitter Blue subscription product to $11 from $7.99 if purchased through its iPhone app and to $7 if purchased through the website.
According to the report, the move was likely in response to Apple’s 30% cut on any payments made by users via apps on the iOS operating system.
According to the report, the lower pricing on the website was also likely to drive more users to that platform rather than signing up on their iPhones. It was not stated whether or not the pricing would change for the Android platform as well.
Musk intends to roll out the microblogging site’s verified service for individuals, businesses, and governments after a botched initial launch resulted in an increase in users impersonating celebrities and brands on the platform.
Musk listed several grievances with Apple in a series of tweets last week, including the 30% fee the iPhone maker charges software developers for in-app purchases.
He also shared a meme in which he stated that he was inclined to “go to war” with Apple rather than pay the commission.
Musk later met with Apple CEO Tim Cook at the company’s headquarters and tweeted that the misunderstanding about Twitter being removed from Apple’s app store had been resolved.
