The Middle East now has the world’s first factory producing only plant-based beef. The Thryve facility was established by the IFFCO Group, one of the biggest food product manufacturers in the UAE, and is situated in Dubai Industrial City.
The newly opened factory will supply food for 30% of GCC residents, reviving Middle Eastern efforts to ensure a more sustainable food supply chain in the area.
The action, which will encourage the growth of the Middle Eastern market for plant-based food items, will also assist the area get closer to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.
UAE’s Vision of Making Plant Based Meat
The factory’s launch, according to Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, is also in line with the nation’s Food Security Policy and its responsibility to lessen the effects of climate change.
“The opening of this innovative new facility also supports our efforts to protect the country’s ecosystems and enhance its food and water security and diversify our food sources,” said Almheiri.
The measure, according to the minister, will improve the UAE’s capacity to advance along the global food industry value chain. The UAE has set a goal of dominating the Global Food Security Index by 2051.
