Tens of tourists have died in Murree and the neighboring areas after being stranded in their cars owing to heavy snowfall. According to official statistics, 16 to 19 visitors have died as a result of the continuous snowfall.
Tourist automobiles became trapped owing to terrible weather conditions and then stopped running when they ran out of petrol, according to disturbing images posted by local inhabitants of the hill area. According to accounts, the hill station got almost 100,000 automobiles despite its capacity of only 30,000.
Because of the continuing snowfall, the poor travelers had nowhere to go for refuge. The snowstorm was so heavy that their cars were completely engulfed in it, and they shivered to their death.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the Federal Interior Minister, commented on the terrible incident, saying that the Federal Government has decided to send the Pakistan Army to Murree to assist the civil government in evacuating the stranded tourists.
He revealed that five Pakistan Army platoons have been deployed in Murree, and that additional Rangers and Frontier Corps contingents have been ordered to remain on high alert.
Thousands of vehicles that reached the hill station on Friday are currently trapped, according to the Interior Minister. At least 1,000 vehicles are expected to be evacuated by this evening, with food and warm clothing provided for those who must suffer the bitter weather at night.
He also revealed that the federal government has decided to prohibit tourists from entering Murree till further notice, asking the public not to make plans to visit the hill station.
CM PUNJAB IMMEDIATE RESPONSE
Following the tragic tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar declared a state of emergency in Murree. He has also offered his government helicopter to assist with the rescue effort.
CM Punjab stated that relevant authorities, such as Rescue 1122 and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, have been asked to increase their efforts in dealing with the crisis.
The Chief Minister of Punjab has also ordered all government-run guest rooms and other amenities to operate at night to welcome stranded tourists.
