There has been no official decision in the city to extend summer vacations.
On Friday, however, there was a lot of confusion among parents about this matter after some private schools announced that they were going to extend the vacations due to the weather, Ashura, and Independence Day.
Because of the heavy monsoon rains, many of the city’s private schools decided to extend their summer vacation until August 9, which would cover both the heavy rains and Ashura.
Other private schools have gone so far as to say that they will reopen on August 15 in order to include Independence Day in their summer vacations.
Many people were perplexed by the decisions. Some believed that the schools were adhering to provincial government directives.
Meanwhile, the Sindh education department has announced that the summer vacation will officially end on July 31, with the first day of school being Monday, August 1. It has not released any information regarding the extension of the holidays.
However, PSMA chairman Danish Uz Zaman explained that the decision to extend summer vacations was made solely by a few private schools.
“There has been no change of holiday schedule at the government level. The private schools that are going to reopen on August 15 also include the chain of Army Public Schools. But as the PSMA follows the Sindh education department, we are going to reopen our schools on Monday as planned earlier. If the education department issues a new directive on the matter, we will surely follow it,” he concluded.
