The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced Tuesday that the deadline for submitting data for the 7th Population and Housing Digital Census 2023 has been extended till April 10, 2023.
Apparently, the Provincial Census Commissioners (PCCs) have submitted a proposal to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), asking for more time to finish the “leftover work,” according to the statement.
Chief Census Commissioner has extended the deadline to finish the remaining work to ensure 100% coverage by 10th April, 2023 “keeping in view the recommendation of the PCCs,” the announcement said.
PBS statement about census delay
According to the statement, “data of 95 percent listed households across the country were effectively acquired by tablets within the allowed deadline.”
It went on to say that only 5% of the census field work remained, and that much of that was done in ‘big-blocks’, when work started with some delay owing to logistical arrangements or was held up for a couple of days due to certain technical issues. According to the PBS, all Pakistani citizens are being asked to contact the bureau via a toll-free hotline (0800-57574), which will be accessible around the clock, if enumerators have not yet paid a visit.
For coverage concerns, citizens can also text their full addresses to the number 9727. Complaints about lack of coverage can be made through PBS Regional Offices or the 495 Census Support Center set up at the tehsil level, it said.
