For the Allama Iqbal International Airport, the lowest-bidder M/s Sinohydro a Chinese firm has been attempting to back out of the deal.

The Senate Standing Committee on Aviation, which met here on Monday, was informed of this. Members received an update on the numerous problems the Pakistani aviation industry is currently dealing with.

Senator Hidayatullah presided over the gathering. Senator Saleem Mandviwala, Senator Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, Senator Umer Farooq, Senator Faisal Saleem Rahman, and senior officials from the Ministry of Aviation were among the Committee members present.

The Committee discussed issues like as the Allama Iqbal International Airport’s bidding procedure, remittances as a result of ticket sales being prohibited from sending foreign currency, and more.

Action against PIA employees hired with false degrees, consolidation of security agency desks at several airports, and a closer distance between the Islamabad Airport building and the parking area.

Chinese Bidder Concerns Over The Deal

The lowest bidder, M/s Sinohydro, a Chinese firm was chosen following a thorough bidding procedure on the basis of the lowest Readout Bidder, the Committee was informed while debating the specifics of the bidding process from Chinese bidder for the Allama Iqbal International Airport. The Chinese bidder has recently attempted to withdraw from the deal, nevertheless.

The basic standards, which call for 10% Performance Security, have also not been met, the Committee was informed.

The Committee suggested that the contractor be invited to the following meeting so that the situation may be thoroughly investigated.

When the Committee raised the problem of remittances because the sale of tickets did not permit the transfer of foreign currency, it was made clear that international airlines were not required to provide their financial information with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), including any pending remittances.

The Committee instructed PCAA to give the Committee any information it had on payments or remittances that were in its possession. It also suggested inviting airline representatives to the subsequent meeting in order to clarify the situation.

The Committee was informed that the Ministry of Interior has been notified of the issue after the Ministry of Law and Justice recommended that action be taken against those hired in PIA on the basis of false degrees.

The importance of revamping the company using the Air India Model was emphasized when PIA’s future in the aviation industry was discussed.

The Committee was notified after reviewing the issue of placing security agency counters in one location at several airports that the directive had been followed precisely.

Members said that every airport must take the most effective steps possible to accommodate travellers.

The Committee was informed that because of the distance between the Islamabad Airport building and the parking lot, travellers could use the drop-off option.
