An official in southern China has reported that a stabbing at a kindergarten has resulted in the deaths of six people, including three children, and the injury of one. A city administration spokesperson said Monday’s attack took place in Lianjiang, Guangdong province.
The attack occurred at 7.40am (23:40 GMT on Sunday), according to local police, and the culprit, a 25-year-old male with the surname Wu, was apprehended 20 minutes later, according to the internaltional newss reporting. According to the source, the incident has been labeled a “intentional assault” by the police.
Videos taken by bystanders purporting to show the crime scene were removed from both Weibo and the video-sharing platform Douyin, despite the fact that the incident was the top-trending subject on the social media platform around 12.20pm (04:20 GMT).
China’s schools had multiple attacks
Despite government efforts to increase security, a number of knife incidents have occurred in Chinese schools in recent years. In southern China’s Jiangxi province in August of last year, three people were killed in an attack on a childcare school.
In April of 2021, a guy armed with a knife stormed a kindergarten in southern China, killing two children and injuring 16. A knifeman attacked a primary school in southern China last June, injuring 37 children and two teachers.
In addition, 51 individuals, most of them youngsters, were injured in November 2019 when a man scaled a kindergarten wall in the southwestern province of Yunnan and sprayed them with a corrosive chemical. In the same year, a 40-year-old man was detained in connection with the deaths of eight kids and the injuries of two others in a “school-related criminal case” in the central province of Hubei.
And in April of 2018, a 28-year-old man in the northern province of Shaanxi killed nine college students and injured 12 others outside of their school. The perpetrator later claimed he had been harassed by a classmate and acted in retaliation.
