The ice is receding more quickly than anticipated, putting glaciers all across the world in danger. They may be found on Mount Kilimanjaro, which is in Tanzania. However, perhaps not for much longer, according to a recent UN report.
The paper attributes the retreat and extinction of glaciers to climate change and claims that this is “among the most striking evidence that Earth’s temperature is changing.” It makes use of satellite data and was published by the UN (United Nations). Over several years, these photos have been monitoring the glaciers’ decline.
“Glaciers are one of the valuable indicators of climate change because they’re visible. This is something we can really see happening.” -Tales Carvalho Resende, Unesco officer and report author
The information includes information on other Unesco World Heritage Sites as well as the effects that climate change is having on Mount Kilimanjaro’s snowy summits. In fewer than 30 years, it is predicted that a third of its glacial locations will be totally melted.
This includes the glaciers in places like Yellowstone National Park in America, the Dolomites in the Italian Alps, and the Pyrenees, a mountain range between France and Spain.
According to the research, these glaciers will disappear no matter what we do to stop climate change.
