The game industry has had an incredibly massive month. Sony and Microsoft are putting forth every effort to dominate the gaming sector. Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft shortly after Zenimax, the parent company of popular companies such as Bethesda, Id Software, and others, was acquired by Microsoft.
These were some of the industry’s most significant purchases. Sony is now retaliating with a huge purchase of its own. Bungie, which is best known for the Destiny and Halo games, was recently acquired by Sony.
The American game firm was acquired for $3.6 billion, a fraction of Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition with Activision Blizzard, but it still gives Sony access to a popular game series.
Take-Two Interactive, the firm behind Grand Theft Auto’s Rockstar Studios, is also busy, having recently purchased Zynga for $12.7 billion. Words With Friends, FarmVille, and other famous smartphone games are produced by Zynga.
PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan believes that Sony’s large purchases have nothing to do with its competitors’ massive acquisitions. However, given Sony’s recent acquisitions of game studios, it’s difficult to agree with this assessment.
Valkyrie Entertainment, the God of War support studio, Housemarque, PlayStation remakes expert Bluepoint, PC port developer Nixxes Software, and others are among the companies on the list.
It’s unlikely that the two opposing enterprises will be finished anytime soon. With the increased popularity of the PS5 and Xbox, we anticipate to see even more large acquisitions in the gaming business.
