On Tuesday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) unveiled a record Rs150.9 billion budget for the fiscal year 2023-24, with a focus on development and a surplus. The CDA board approved the budget at their meeting held at CDA headquarters, which allocates Rs107.463 billion for development and works operations.
There are new projects in the next budget
Salaries and pensions totaled Rs16.25 billion, CDA contingency was Rs8.5 billion, while the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) borrowed Rs1 billion. If the CDA’s expected budget receipts of Rs150.948 billion pan out, there will be a surplus of Rs852.46 million. The meeting, presided over by CDA chairman Noorul Amin Mengal, also approved construction of the largest bird aviary in the world in F-9 park.
The aviary, which will be built to special specifications on a 10-acre plot, will house a wide variety of birds from all over the world. The CDA board meeting was impressed with the planning department’s updated layout designs for sectors D-13, E-13, and F-13. Those who would be adversely affected would be allotted land in the updated version of the proposal.
The revised budget from last year was 69 billion rupees, thus the new budget is more than twice as large. CDA forecasts a total revenue of Rs78 billion this year, including Rs 52 billion in recovery from government agencies including Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, Iesco, Wasa, and others.
