The Benazir Income Support Programme has launched a real-time dashboard for its stunting prevention initiative, the Benazir Nashonuma Program. This new digital system focuses on transparency, performance tracking, and measurable impact in the fight against child malnutrition.
The announcement was made at an official ceremony led by BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid. She was joined by Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmed Shah and Coco Ushiyama, Country Director of the World Food Programme. The event reflected strong cooperation between Pakistan and international development partners.
What the Real-Time Dashboard Means
The new dashboard provides live data about program performance. Officials can now monitor progress at the federal and provincial levels without delay. This improves transparency and allows quick action if gaps appear.
With real-time reporting, policymakers can make informed decisions. The system strengthens accountability and supports better planning in the health and social protection sectors. It also helps ensure that funds and services reach the right families on time.
Focus on the First 1000 Days
A key feature of the program is its focus on the first 1000 days of a child’s life. Health experts consider this period critical for physical growth and brain development.
By providing nutrition support during pregnancy and early childhood, the program aims to prevent stunting and long-term health issues. Early intervention can improve school performance, productivity, and overall quality of life in the future.
Senator Rubina Khalid highlighted that the initiative gives special attention to girls. She stressed the importance of addressing nutritional deficiencies early to promote healthier growth.
She also acknowledged technical support from the UNICEF and the World Health Organization, whose collaboration has strengthened monitoring and implementation systems.
Program Reach and Impact
So far, the Benazir Nashonuma Program has reached over 4 million women and children across Pakistan. It provides essential nutrition assistance during the most vulnerable years of life. This makes it one of the country’s largest health-linked cash support programs.
