Both Arshad Nadeem and Shajjar Abbas will compete for Pakistan at the Asian Athletics Championship in Pattaya, Thailand, as confirmed by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) on Monday.
There were 60 players who tried out for the AFP in Lahore before the 12-16 July Asian Championship.
Along with Arshad Nadeem, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist in javelin throwing, Yasir Sultan would represent Pakistan at the Asian Championship.
They are great names in athletics for Pakistan
It is anticipated that Arshad Nadeem, who won bronze at the 2018 Asian Games, will face formidable opposition from Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic champion.
Shajjar Abbas, a sprinter who, like Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan, made it to the finals of the 100-meter event at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, would also be competing in the Asian Championship.
While Abdul Mueed will compete in the 200 and 400 metre events for Pakistan, Esha Imran will represent the country in all three of those events.
The last time Pakistan won an Asian Athletics Championship medal was in 1991 in Kuala Lumpur, and Arshad Nadeem has a chance to change that.
