The name of the host country, Pakistan, was significantly omitted from all participating teams’ jerseys for the 50-over Asia Cup 2023, which is set to begin today.
Asia Cup 2023 starts at Multan
The competing teams unveiled their new event uniforms yesterday, and cricket fans noticed the omission of the host country’s name beneath the Asia Cup emblem.
Fans expressed their concerns, recalling that previous year, despite the event being held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka was imprinted on jerseys.
This year is significant since Pakistan was initially tasked with hosting the Asia Cup 2023, but India declined to travel to Pakistan for its matches.
This prompted diplomatic conversations and negotiations, with Sri Lanka stepping in as a cooperative host, sharing organising duties with Pakistan.
Competition taking place in Sri Lanka
The partnership of both countries as co-hosts demonstrates the versatility of the cricketing globe and the togetherness that the sport can engender in difficult circumstances.
It is worth noting that Pakistan is the official host, despite the fact that the majority of the competition is taking place in Sri Lanka.
Four matches will now be played in Pakistan, with the remaining matches, including the final match, taking place in Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.
The tournament begins today, with Pakistan taking against Nepal at 2:30 p.m. PST at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
