The competition for the title of Asian champion gets underway today with the first match of the continental tournament between Pakistan and Nepal.
1st Match of Asia Cup 2023
The first game of the Asia Cup 2023 is playing between Pakistan and Nepal in the City of Saints, where a sizable crowd is anticipated.
“Enjoy live fireworks and performances by Aima Baig and Nepal’s Trishala Gurung, followed by the opening match between Pakistan and Nepal,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
Trishala Gurung is unfamiliar to Pakistani listeners, although Aima Baig has previously sang the PSL anthems.
Venues of Matches
The multi-nation competition is being conducted in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.
Because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refuses to send their team to Pakistan due to security concerns.
Pakistan is in Group A with Nepal and India. Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will host four matches, while Sri Lanka will host nine, including the final.
Since 2016, the Asia Cup has alternated between T20 and ODI forms. The 2023 edition will be played in the 50-over format to enable teams prepare for the World Cup later this year in India.
The defending champions of the 50-over Asia Cup, which was last held in 2018, are India.
