Arijit Singh, a well-known Indian singer, is now on tour in the United States. In his most recent show, the award-winning performer startled the audience with an announcement.
“You can rest your arms over there the person from Pakistan,” Singh said at his Houston concert, according to a video that has gone viral on social media.
He continued, “I will come to Pakistan.”
Singh had returned to the stage in November of last year following a performance break with a sold-out gig in Abu Dhabi. The singer then astonished the audience by taking a position for Pakistani artists, despite the ‘controversy’ it might cause back home.
Later, showgoers commended his bravery on social media and shared the moments that made their hearts swell for the artist. A clip from the concert was also released on Twitter, in which the Tum Hi Ho singer complimented Atif Aslam before singing Pehli Nazar Mein.
“Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali are two of my favourite singers,” the Agar Tum Saath Ho singer said before adding, “Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali are two of my favorite singers.”
“What solid statement from Arijit Singh regarding Pakistani singers,” lauded a Twitter user sharing the video that sees Singh on stage, praising Atif. “Singing songs of these artists as well,” they added.
On the microblogging site, another concertgoer penned an appreciation thread for Arijit right from the concert venue. They said, “I’m at Arijit Singh’s concert right now, and the guy has just won me over.” “[He] sings Sayyonee and says it’s by Junoon, one of his favourite bands, and it’s for all my Pakistani fans here,” he says.
But it was Arijit singing an Atif song before pausing to ask, “Now I’ll question something controversial, why have we forbidden Pakistani songs?” that ‘killed it’ for the fan. I don’t give a damn about Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali, two of my favorite singers.”
