Apple’s next WWDC developer conference is set to begin soon, and we expect the event to be AI-focused, with generative AI features in iOS 18 and beyond. There could even be a new AI-powered version of the App Store.
According to analyst Ben Reitzes, rather than incorporating AI features to improve the App Store, the new version will feature a variety of AI apps from different developers.
Apple’s strategy reflects its previous success with app marketplaces such as iTunes and the iPhone App Store.
Apple has consistently demonstrated its prowess in ecosystem development by enticing various companies to participate in these platforms while also showcasing its own products.
According to Reitzes, Apple plans to unveil its vision for integrating AI applications at WWDC. This potential App Store update could include Apple’s upgraded AI assistant, most likely an improved version of Siri, as well as offerings from competitors.
While the idea of an AI App Store is not novel, other analysts have previously proposed a similar model, implying that Apple may hold internal discussions about this concept at WWDC.
Furthermore, speculation surrounds Apple’s potential discussions with industry titans such as Google and Baidu about the inclusion of their AI services in this hypothetical App Store.
Google’s Gemini AI is already available through traditional apps and seamlessly integrates with the concept of an AI-specific marketplace.
As anticipation for WWDC grows for early June, all eyes are on Apple to see if they will indeed introduce this novel approach to AI integration.
Aside from an AI App Store, Apple is expected to reveal iOS 18 at its developer conference, which is expected to be the most significant update to iOS yet due to generative AI capabilities.
