While reports abound of an iPhone 14 Pro with a pill-shaped notch, Apple could be working on eradicating the display’s ugliness entirely on its Pro iPhones as early as next year.
Samsung is claimed to have cooperated with the company, and the Galaxy Z Fold5 will feature Samsung’s second-generation under-display camera technology.
Samsung’s display division is apparently working on a new under-panel camera technology that might see the display notch on Apple’s iPhone become obsolete.
With the iPhone X in 2017, Apple brazenly debuted the signature feature. While most iPhone owners have adjusted to their new reality, some have gone so far as to sue Apple for “lying” about the screen size.

Analysts predict that Samsung will employ the new technology in a new foldable Galaxy phone lineup next year, and Apple may use it in iPhone 15 Pro versions as well.
Samsung has already included an under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold3, but despite low expectations, most reviewers found the quality to be underwhelming.
The pixel density over the front camera is lower than the rest of the screen, allowing the under-display sensor to receive as much light as possible.
However, this results in a low-quality capture that the Samsung camera software must over-sharpen.
Apple was previously speculated to be collaborating with LG Panel to hide Face ID behind the display, as the latter is working on a similar technique.
LG aims to attain a light transmittance of 20% by 2023 and 40% by 2024, according to its plans.
