New mobile graphics cards from Nvidia were unveiled on Monday, while new mobile processors from Intel were unveiled early on Wednesday. In response, AMD launched new mobile GPUs, new Ryzen 7040 series CPUs for mobile devices with an integrated AI engine, and new 3D V-Cache desktop processors, including the 7800X3D, 7900X3D, and 7950X3D, during its CES 2023 speech on Wednesday evening.
Since the desktop 3D V-Cache processors load additional memory on top of the computing die, they are interesting for those who conduct demanding jobs like gaming.
But because they typically rely on their integration in actual laptops to make their first impression, mobile processors and GPUs are frequently challenging to get enthused about on their own. AMD is launching Ryzen AI, a new mobile capability, this year.
You can now find an inbuilt AI engine on the mobile Ryzen 7040 series processors, which include the Ryzen 7640HS, 7840HS, and 7940HS. This is the first time an x86 CPU has had an AI engine.
The lack of AI functionality in x86, a sort of CPU architecture prevalent in Windows devices, has contributed to firms like Apple moving production in-house.
In other words, whilst your M2 MacBook has an AI processor, your Windows laptop probably does not.
