Toyota unveiled its all-new Land Cruiser Prado in the United States last year. The fifth-generation SUV, also known as the Land Cruiser 250 (or J250), uses the same platform as the Land Cruiser 300 (LC300) and has a retro-inspired exterior and interior.
The all-new Land Cruiser 250 has been officially launched in Japan. While it looks identical to the US version, Toyota has decided to remove the “Prado” name from the nomenclature and simply call it the Land Cruiser 250.
Some may argue that this is simply a name change, but the Japanese automaker has stated that the rename also represents the Land Cruiser 250’s repositioning as the lineup’s core model.
High-end Luxury SUV
Whereas the Prado was once a high-end luxury SUV comparable to the Land Cruiser 200/300, the Land Cruiser 250 has returned to its original role as a mid-range midsize SUV capable of going anywhere.
The LC250 will be available in three variants: ZX, VX, and GX. The ZX and VX have three rows of seating, whereas the base model GX has only five seats.
Unique Features
Those looking for something a little more unique can purchase the Special Edition ZX First Edition. This model has unique features such as round bi-beam LED headlights, matte black aluminium alloy wheels, and 18-inch off-road tyres.
There’s also the Special Edition VX First Edition, which features an exclusive Sand exterior colour and a Dark Chestnut interior.
