A terrible incident occurred in Kasur, Punjab, when a vendor was killed after being allegedly tortured by wedding attendees for selling papad (crackers) within the wedding hall.
The videos of the victim — identified as Ashraf alias Sultan — went viral on social media. During the ceremony, the man could be seen laying on the floor while the guests were enjoying their dinner.
The video was widely panned, with many people criticizing the guests’ harshness.
Brother-in-law of Ashraf Pervez later told authorities that he was riding his motorcycle with his pals outside the wedding hall when he witnessed the occurrence and attempted, but failed, to save him.
Meanwhile, after being tormented, Ashraf collapsed to the ground. His death was confirmed later by the rescue team.
Police Action
Following a social media outcry, Punjab Police swooped in and arrested 12 persons, including the wedding hall manager.
According to the authorities, the physicians did not corroborate torture in the original postmortem report, but every element of the incident is being scrutinized.
It went on to say that a team from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) had collected evidence from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, DPO Kasur stated that they have gathered additional evidence, such as CCTV camera footage and other films.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has also requested a police report.
