Activision Blizzard can’t seem to get away from the controversies. The corporation is facing another sexual harassment/discrimination complaint less than three months into the New Year, after dealing with a slew of them last year. There are more than 30 defendants in this case.
On behalf of an unknown client, The Bloom Firm filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, Blizzard Entertainment, three former and two present Blizzard employees, and 25 other unnamed persons.
Sexual harassment on two counts, failure to prohibit harassment, sexual favoritism, retaliation, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress are among the charges.
Mark Skorupa, a former Blizzard employee who now works for parent company Microsoft, has been accused of a number of things.
Skorupa and another Blizzard employee working in the IT department hired Jane Doe as an executive assistant.
Skorupa allegedly made sexual approaches and inappropriate statements toward Doe, placed his hand in her lap at lunch on her first day, and gave her unwelcomed hugs that lasted too long, according to Doe.
Doe further claims that the HR staff ignored repeated complaints, dismissing them as “niceness” on the side of management.
“HR dismissed Ms. Doe’s sexual misconduct complaints, saying that it was just her leadership being nice and trying to be friends with her,” reads the filing. “HR asked Ms. Doe to keep all of her issues, concerns, recordings, or emails to herself because they could be very damaging to Activision Blizzard.”
Doe also says she was fired in reprisal for filing a grievance with HR.
Skorupa then made cruel comments to her, the firm demoted her, and she was denied job applications in various divisions despite being more qualified than other applicants, she claims.
Doe is seeking all legal fees as well as an unspecified amount in damages, according to the lawsuit. Microsoft and Activision have both declined to comment on the complaint.
