According to the Met Office, moderate monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to reach the higher portions of the country beginning on the 22nd (evening/night).
A westerly wave is also expected to arrive in these areas on August 23rd, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Monsoon Predicted Areas
Monsoon Rain/wind-thundershower (with few moderate to heavy rainfall) is likely in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) and Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar).
Also in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera from 23rd to 27th August with occasional gaps.
Monsoon Rain/wind-thundershower is also expected in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Bhakkar from 24th to 26th August with occasional gaps.
While in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar on 25th and 26th August.
From the 23rd to the 25th of August, moderate to heavy rains may boost water flows in local Nullahs/streams in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Galliyat, Murree, Rawalpindi/Islamabad.
Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby parts of northeast Balochistan saw hill torrents on the 25th and 26th of August.
From the 23rd to the 26th of August, moderate to heavy rainfall may produce urban flooding in low-lying parts of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Lahore.
During the wet season, it may cause landslides in sensitive places such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly portions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Advisory From PMD
Dam managers are recommended to regulate reservoir levels appropriately throughout the wet period from August 23rd to August 27th.
The current hot and humid temperatures are expected to lessen during the spell. Farmers are encouraged to plan their activities in accordance with the weather forecast.
Tourists and travelers are encouraged to be especially cautious during the wet season to prevent any unfortunate situations.
Wind-thunderstorms can cause damage to unsecured structures such as power poles and solar panels.
During a windstorm, lightning, or severe rain, the general public is recommended to seek shelter in a safe location.
During the forecast time, all relevant agencies have been advised to remain vigilant and take the required precautions.
