Karachi Traffic Police Warns Citizens About Fake E-Challan SMS

The Karachi Traffic Police has issued a strong warning to citizens about fake e-challan SMS messages being sent under its name. These fraudulent messages mislead people by claiming to be official notifications of traffic fines. The police have urged everyone to stay alert and avoid clicking any links, sharing personal information, or making payments through such messages.

Public Complaints Lead to Action

This warning came after several residents complained about receiving false e-challan messages on their phones. These texts often include details about vehicle numbers and fake fines to appear real. However, officials confirmed that the Karachi Traffic Police does not send challans through text messages. The police acted quickly to inform citizens before anyone became a victim of these scams.

DIG Pir Muhammad Shah’s Clarification

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Pir Muhammad Shah, stated that people must completely ignore such messages. He made it clear that no official e-challans are being issued via SMS at this time. According to him, these scams are meant to deceive citizens and collect money illegally. He encouraged everyone to rely only on official Karachi Traffic Police channels for any fine verification.

Advice for Safe Verification

DIG Shah also advised the public to confirm any traffic fines only through official platforms. The safest way to verify is by visiting the official Karachi Traffic Police website or using the official mobile app. He added that people should never provide their CNIC, bank details, or passwords through suspicious links. These steps can protect citizens from cyber fraud and data theft.

Launch of Tracks Citizen App

Along with this public alert, the Karachi Traffic Police announced a new mobile application named “Tracks Citizen.” The app allows users to easily check their e-challans, traffic violations, and vehicle details. Once logged in with a CNIC, users can see all vehicles registered in their name. This makes the system transparent and easy to use for everyone.

Digital Reforms for Transparency

Officials said this initiative is part of the department’s digital transformation plan. The goal is to make the fine tracking and payment process more reliable, transparent, and user-friendly. Through digital technology, citizens can now manage their traffic records without visiting any office. This approach reduces corruption, saves time, and ensures all transactions are secure.

Preventing Future Scams

The introduction of the new app also aims to reduce the number of fake messages and online fraud attempts. With citizens having direct access to verified information, scammers will find it harder to deceive them. Authorities believe that public awareness, combined with digital tools, can help prevent such incidents in the future and strengthen public trust.

Public Cooperation is Essential

The Karachi Traffic Police have urged citizens to cooperate by spreading awareness about this issue. People are encouraged to share accurate information with family and friends to ensure no one becomes a victim of fake e-challan fraud. The department emphasized that only through collective vigilance and responsible digital habits can the city stay safe from these growing scams.

A Step Toward Safer Digital Policing

This move marks an important step toward modern, secure, and citizen-friendly policing in Karachi. The warning against fake SMS messages and the launch of the Tracks Citizen app together reflect the department’s commitment to public safety and digital progress. Citizens are advised to remain cautious, use official sources, and play their part in supporting this positive change.
