On October 3, 2025, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Phase II of the Lahore Electric Bus Project. This new phase adds 40 more buses to the city’s public transport fleet. Two new routes have been launched, from Raiwind to Jinnah Terminal at Thokar Niaz Baig and from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura, giving people more affordable and eco-friendly travel choices.
Target to Expand Fleet by December
The Punjab government aims to bring in 70 new buses by December 2025. With this addition, the Lahore Division fleet will grow to 500 electric buses. This large expansion is part of a long-term plan to modernize transport in Punjab. The authorities also have plans to extend the service to nearby districts, including Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Sheikhupura, to benefit more travelers.
Affordable Fares and Free Travel Options
The fare for these buses has been fixed at just Rs. 20, making it budget-friendly for the public. Students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities can ride free, which makes the service even more inclusive. This thoughtful step ensures that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy reliable and comfortable travel. The government hopes this will encourage more people to use public transport daily.
Modern Features for Passenger Comfort

Building on the Success of Phase I
The initiative began with Phase I, which first introduced electric buses in Lahore. It was aimed at reducing pollution and providing low-cost transport. The success of Phase I set the foundation for further growth. Phase II now takes the project forward with 40 more buses, extended routes, and better services, marking an important milestone toward a cleaner and sustainable public transport system in Punjab.
