Islamkot, April 25, 2025 – A high-level UN delegation, led by MPA Qasim Siraj Soomro, visited Thar Block II and commended community development initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of Tharis.
UN Delegation Composition and Briefing
The delegation included officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF, UN Women, United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO), World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The team was briefed by the Thar Foundation and taken on a tour of key project sites.
Visit to Model Village and Schools
The delegation visited New Senhri Dars, a model village, where they interacted with students at one of the 25 schools established by the Thar Foundation. With over 5,000 students currently enrolled, the UN officials recognized the importance of this education network in enhancing literacy across the region.
Health Initiatives and Polio Vaccination
At the Thar Foundation Hospital in Islamkot, the delegation participated in administering polio drops to children, reinforcing the importance of immunization in rural healthcare.

Clean Water and Livestock Support
The team also inspected a reverse osmosis (RO) plant providing clean drinking water and visited a veterinary camp, where they observed livestock vaccinations and deworming activities.
Interest in Future Collaboration
Mr. James Roberts Okoth from FAO expressed interest in partnering with the Thar Foundation to support livestock breeding programs and promote agricultural innovation in the region.
The visit highlighted the positive impact of development initiatives in Thar and set the stage for potential future collaborations between the UN and local organizations.
