Pakistan will launch its second satellite, ‘PAKSAT MM1‘, today, on May 30. The satellite aims to improve TV, mobile, and internet services. The launch will take place at XiChang Satellite Launch Centre in China.
Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced the launch. They called it a milestone in China-Pakistan technological cooperation.
Suparco believes the satellite will boost Pakistan’s socio-economic development. They say it will help transform Pakistan into a digital nation.
The upfront costs of the satellite may seem high. However, Suparco emphasizes the long-term benefits.
The satellite will create high-tech jobs and attract investment. It will drive economic growth in Pakistan.
The satellite ‘PAKSAT MM1’ will start its services in August. Earlier in May 2024, Pakistan launched its first moon mission. They sent the iCube Qamar satellite to the moon.
Pakistan’s Lunar Satellite iCube Qamar Sends First Image

Pakistan’s iCube Qamar sent its first moon picture. It went around the moon three times. The satellite launched on May 3. It started from Hainan, China.
The Chang’e-6 rocket carried it. On May 8, iCube Qamar got to the moon. SUPARCO said it worked.
The satellite has two cameras. The cameras take pictures of the moon. They work from 200 kilometers away. IST gave more info. Pakistan and China worked on this together.
Shanghai University also helped. SUPARCO led Pakistan’s part.
Chang’e-6 is a China moon mission. It is the sixth mission. This mission will explore the moon’s far side. It will collect samples. The samples will come back to Earth.
iCube-Q is important for Pakistan. It is a small CubeSat satellite. IST made it with SUPARCO. CubeSats are small and box-shaped. They have parts that fit just right. Read more here.
