The Punjab government has launched a breakthrough programme to provide electric motorcycles to 15,000 teachers across the province.
Sikandar Hayat, Provincial Education Minister, will lead the effort, which will be implemented in three stages.
Initially, 5,000 teachers will receive electric bikes, with a further 10,000 distributed in subsequent phases.
The move to supply electric motorcycles to teachers will alleviate the financial burden caused by high petrol prices, making it easier for them to commute to school.
The transition to electric bikes is expected to save teachers money on transport costs.
Minister Hayat is confident about the initiative’s good impact, citing its cost-saving and environmental benefits.
Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched a registration campaign to provide 20,000 electric and petrol bikes to university students around the province.
In its first phase, the project would provide 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 e-bikes to university students.
To facilitate this, the Punjab government will subsidise the markup by Rs1 billion and make the initial Rs20,000 down payment for each bike on behalf of the students.
During this phase, bikes would be supplied to Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The deadline for submitting an application is April 29th.
