Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that audio and video calls are coming to the platform.
“Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform,” Elon Musk announced in a tweet. “So you can talk to people from anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number.”
Twitter’s New Update
In a subsequent tweet, Musk claimed that the WhatsApp messaging service operated by Meta “cannot be trusted.”
The messaging feature would compete with a slew of free services such as Messenger, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp.
Musk also stated that Twitter will begin encrypting direct messages on the platform on Wednesday, scrambling contents to protect privacy.
Musk has implemented changes in seemingly impulsive ways since purchasing it for $44 billion late last year, sometimes causing chaos for users.
The CEO has publicly stated his desire to create an all-purpose “X” application that combines messages, payments, and other features.
Musk recently incorporated the technology firm into a “X” shell corporation, removing the Twitter company name but continuing to use it for the service.
Elon Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter has been nothing short of a disaster and extremely chaotic. Many are leaving the platform permanently, while others are watching the drama with popcorn in hand.
While some may argue that the platform no longer promotes healthy communication, insightful debates, or useful information, it remains one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, crushing previous records.
So far, Musk’s plans have included the Blue subscription and a new advertising policy. However, none of these changes were well received by its users.

With the dust barely settled on these issues, Musk decided to add to the confusion with the ‘Twitter 2.0’ bomb. According to reports, new owner recently shared ‘hardcore’ plans for 2.0 with his staff members via email.
