Toyota has introduced a new GR Sport variant of the TNGA-based Yaris Cross, which debuted in April 2020 and went to go on sale in Japan in September 2020.
Toyota has given the Yaris Cross GR Sport a stiffer body and a revised suspension setup, in addition to some styling changes.
The Yaris Cross GR Sport has additional bracing in the center of the underbody and at the rear. According to the Japanese automaker, this improves steering stability and reduces body roll.
The ride height has been reduced by 10 mm thanks to the revised suspension setup. Toyota has also improved the responsiveness of the springs, shocks, and electric power steering.
The Yaris Cross GR Sport is outfitted with Falken FK510 tyres that measure 18 inches in diameter.
The crossover gets mesh grilles on the front and rear, red brake callipers, and 10-spoke alloy wheels as visual upgrades.
Inside, the Yaris Cross GR Sport features special front seats made of a mix of Air Nubuck and synthetic leather.
The steering wheel is leather-wrapped with the GR logo, the shift knob is leather-wrapped, and the pedals have aluminium covers. The Yaris Cross GR Sport comes with a choice of two 1.5L three-cylinder engines under the hood.
The naturally aspirated version produces 118 horsepower, while the hybrid version produces 90 horsepower and receives an upgraded powertrain controller that improves accelerator pedal response.
Although the regular Yaris Cross is available with all-wheel drive, this model is only available in front-wheel drive. The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport will be available in Japan in August 2022, with the naturally aspirated model starting at ¥2,367,000 (PKR 39.21 lac) and the hybrid model starting at ¥2,750,000. (PKR 45.54 lac).
