The Pakistani government and the United Arab Emirates UAE enjoy very good economic, strategic, and diplomatic relations. Both the Pakistani and UAE governments have, over the years, underlined the importance of cooperation between the two in the areas of trade, investments, oil, and defense matters. To this end, the two enjoy good cultural relations, which also include the Pakistani community living in the UAE to a large degree. The visit of His Highness, President of the UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan assumes significance in this respect.
Official Status of the Visit
The Pakistan Government has also been quoted expressing readiness to receive the UAE President on an official visit. The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, have both hailed the visit as an opportunity for Pakistan eagerness for engagement in official high-level diplomatic talks. Talks between meetings held with the UAE Ambassador in Islamabad further reiterated Pakistan’s eagerness for the visit, although no dates, including the widely speculated 26th December 2025, have been officially confirmed by the UAE or the Pakistan Government.
Anticipated Agenda of the Visit
Although the programme has not been finalized and confirmed, it is expected that the UAE President’s visit would entail different domains of cooperation. The bilateral meetings between the Pakistani and UAE presidents and premier would focus upon regional security and strategic and diplomatic cooperation. Economic cooperation is also expected to come into focus, and it would entail mutual cooperation in regards to investment in the energy sector, Information Technology, and Trade of Pakistan. In addition to that, it would also entail the agreement of Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements to ease investment channels and foster cooperation among businesses. The Pakistani community settled in the UAE and cooperation related to cultural exchanges would also come into focus to further advance people to people relations.
Recent Diplomatic Incidents
In the days leading up to the expected visit, diplomatic talks on a high level have been held by Pakistani officials with UAE officials. As if to underscore this, on 19th December 2025, President Asif Ali Zardari received the new UAE Ambassador, Salem Mohammed Salem Al Bawab Al Zaabi, in Islamabad to emphasize renewing good relations and cooperating on political economic defense, and people to people areas. Correspondingly, on 23rd December, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received the UAE Ambassador to stress investment opportunities and emphasize Pakistan’s willingness to receive the UAE President during a visit.
History behind UAE-Pakistan Collaboration
There have been long standing cooperation agreements between the UAE and Pakistan. At the start of 2025, several MoUs and protocols have been signed between the two countries to improve the scope of cooperation in the following sectors: investment digital economy AI banking trade aviation energy food security climate change defense education. Moreover, the visit of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to Pakistan at the start of 2025 was aimed at signing agreements related to the following sectors: railways mining banking infrastructure. This suggests that the forthcoming visit by the UAE President follows a serious intent to improve the scope of cooperation between the two countries.
Important Clarification on Dates
The date of Although great expectations had been entertained, no confirmation has been received so far for the UAE President visit to Islamabad on 26 December 2025. Any commitment from the Pakistani government, as well as from the UAE government, has only been made concerning the visit, not the programme details.
