Before stepping down last month, Yoel Roth oversaw Twitter’s content moderation operations.
Under Elon Musk, according to Roth, Twitter’s content filtering could deteriorate, and the company could not be able to protect its most vulnerable users.
Twitter “went off the rails in exactly the way that we anticipated,” according to Roth in a recent interview. Workers at Twitter tried to alert Musk to “obvious” issues that would arise if anyone could purchase a verified badge for $8 per month.
He didn’t pay attention, and the deployment resulted in turmoil with lots of bogus news and impersonations.
Twitter Blue was then put on hold, and verifications are scheduled to start again this Friday.
According to Roth, there were several reasons why he decided to resign, one of them being the paid verification option.
Roth was frequently sharing material with Twitter followers prior to his resignation.
In his final days at Twitter, he compared them to managing a leaky dam while trying to patch any holes that may still exist.
Roth claims that Musk’s strategy could make Twitter a hazardous place.
To begin with, there isn’t enough labor available to safeguard users from bad actors. Roth believes that certain criminals elude the detection of AI technologies.
“People are not sitting still,” he said. “They are actively devising new ways to be horrible on the internet.”
