Azerbaijan’s state-owned energy company SOCAR has confirmed its readiness to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan under a framework agreement signed in 2025 with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL). The agreement is designed to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries.
Framework Agreement Between SOCAR and PLL
The arrangement between SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG Limited provides a structured mechanism for LNG procurement. It allows Pakistan to request LNG cargoes when needed, offering flexibility in meeting the country’s energy demands.
Fast Track LNG Procurement System
Under the agreement, LNG purchases can be processed through a fast-track system once Pakistan submits a formal request. This setup is intended to ensure quicker access to international energy supplies, particularly during periods of high demand or supply shortages.
No Active Supply Yet Confirmed
While SOCAR has expressed readiness to supply LNG, no shipments have yet been confirmed under this agreement. Actual deliveries will begin only after Pakistan officially places a request for LNG cargoes.
Strengthening Energy Cooperation
The development highlights growing energy cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Both countries have been expanding their economic and strategic ties, particularly in the energy sector, to improve long-term energy security and trade relations.
Importance for Pakistan Energy Needs
For Pakistan, the agreement provides an additional option to manage its energy requirements, especially in times of shortage. Experts believe such flexible arrangements could help stabilize LNG supply and support the country’s power and industrial sectors in the future.
