Sindh Government has approved a new grading system for Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) exams. The old marks system has been removed and students will now receive grades instead of numbers. The goal is to match international standards and provide a better understanding of student performance. The new system will start from 2026 annual exams for Grade 9 and 11, and will extend to Grade 10 and 12 from 2027.
How the New System Works
Students will no longer get marks in their exams. Instead, they will receive grades based on their scores. The minimum passing mark is 40%. Students scoring below 40% in any subject will get a “U” grade, meaning Fail or Ungraded. This system focuses more on learning and understanding rather than memorizing numbers. The system was approved by Sindh Government and endorsed by the Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC) to ensure it aligns with national and international standards.
Grading Scale Table
| Grade | Percentage Range | Remarks |
| A++ | 96% – 100% | Excellent |
| A+ | 91% – 95% | Outstanding |
| A | 86% – 90% | Very Good |
| B++ | 81% – 85% | Good |
| B+ | 76% – 80% | Above Average |
| B | 71% – 75% | Average |

| C | 61% – 65% | Pass |
| D | 40% – 60% | Minimum Pass |

Benefits of the New System
The grading system will reduce stress for students and provide a fairer evaluation. It encourages understanding and learning instead of rote memorization. Teachers will be able to assess students more clearly, and universities will get a better idea of student skills and abilities.
Implementation Timeline
The grading system will start for Grade 9 and 11 from 2026. Full implementation for Grade 10 and 12 will begin in 2027. Authorities are also planning training sessions for teachers to help students and teachers adjust easily to the new system.
