Samsung’s new Exynos 2200 processor was expected to be released yesterday, however it was abruptly cancelled without warning or explanation. The reason for the delay sparked a lot of discussion and rumours about what was causing it.
According to speculations, the South Korean tech giant has delayed the chip’s release due to overheating difficulties that have resulted in performance loss.
Samsung has issued an official statement denying all such rumours and accusations, saying, “We are planning to unveil the new application processor at the time of launching a new Samsung smartphone. There are no problems with the AP’s production and performance.”
As a result, the performance loss that places the Samsung Exynos 2200 below the graphics of the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 or, for that matter, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is justified. The good news is that the company’s decision to postpone the event suggests that they are working on a solution.
As per a Samsung official, “The new GPU is expected to resolve the problems of the Exynos 2100. We intend to sharpen our competitiveness by loading GPUs for games into mobile devices.”
This means that the Exynos 2200 will be the first smartphone chip to feature AMD’s RDNA2 architecture, which is also used in the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Smartphones, in particular, will be able to provide hardware support for in-game ray-tracing technologies as a result of this.
In addition, the Exynos 2200 GPU is predicted to be up to 30% quicker than the current top Mali GPU, putting it slightly ahead of the future Mali-G710. The final performance, however, will be determined by the clock speed achieved by Samsung with the final chip design.
While Samsung has yet to officially announce a debut date for the Galaxy S22 series, rumours from Korea suggest a tentative date of February 8th.
