The last ten days of Ramadan hold immense significance in Islam. These blessed nights are an opportunity to seek forgiveness, draw closer to Allah, and strive for Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree). The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) intensified his worship during this period, setting an example for us to follow. Here’s a recommended to-do list to maximize these precious days.
1. Recite the Quran
The Quran was revealed in Ramadan, making its recitation especially rewarding. Dedicate time daily to read, reflect, and understand its verses. Aim to complete the Quran if possible, or set a manageable target. Reciting Surah Al-Qadr and other meaningful chapters can deepen your connection with Allah and prepare your heart for Laylat al-Qadr.
2. Perform Fard, Sunnah, and Voluntary Prayers
Fulfill your obligatory prayers with sincerity and focus. Add Sunnah and voluntary prayers, such as Taraweeh, to increase your rewards. These acts of worship purify the soul and strengthen your relationship with Allah. Consistency in prayer during these nights can lead to immense spiritual growth and blessings.
3. Pray Tahajjud Every Night
Tahajjud, the night prayer, is a powerful way to seek Allah’s mercy. Wake up in the last third of the night to pray and make heartfelt dua. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) emphasized this practice, especially in the last ten days. Tahajjud is a time when Allah descends to the lowest heaven, answering supplications and granting forgiveness.
4. Engage in Dhikr, Astaghfar, and Sending Salawat
Increase your dhikr (remembrance of Allah) by reciting phrases like SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar. Seek forgiveness through Astaghfar and send blessings upon the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) with Salawat. These acts purify the heart, erase sins, and bring you closer to Allah. Consistent dhikr ensures you remain mindful of Him throughout the day.
5. Give Charity
Generosity is a hallmark of Ramadan. Give charity, no matter how small, to help those in need and earn Allah’s pleasure. Sadaqah (voluntary charity) and Zakat (obligatory charity) both hold great rewards. Charity not only benefits others but also purifies your wealth and soul, making it a vital act in these blessed days.
6. Pray Isha and Fajr in Congregation
If staying awake all night is challenging, at least pray Isha and Fajr in congregation. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) highlighted the immense reward of praying these two prayers in Jama’ah. This simple yet powerful act ensures you gain the reward of praying the entire night, especially if it coincides with Laylat al-Qadr.
7. Stay in the Masjid After Fajr
After Fajr, remain in the masjid to engage in dhikr and optional prayers. Perform Salatul Ishraq (4 raka’at) about 25-30 minutes after sunrise. This prayer carries the reward of a complete Hajj and Umrah, making it an excellent way to start your day with immense blessings and spiritual fulfillment.
8. Make Dua for Laylat al-Qadr
Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Seek it by making sincere dua, especially the one taught by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم):
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي”
“Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni”
(O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).
This dua is a powerful way to seek Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.
Conclusion
The last ten days of Ramadan are a golden opportunity to elevate your worship and seek Allah’s pleasure. By following this to-do list, you can maximize your rewards and potentially witness Laylat al-Qadr. May Allah grant us the ability to make the most of these nights, forgive our sins, and grant us Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
