The Punjab government has announced that students of private universities will now benefit from its laptop distribution program. For the first time, private university students are included in this initiative, which aims to provide equal digital opportunities and reduce educational gaps across the province.
First Phase of Distribution
The first phase will deliver 10,000 laptops to students in private universities. Authorities from the Higher Education Department have already started preparations to ensure smooth delivery. This step marks a significant milestone in bridging the digital divide between public and private higher-education students in Punjab.
Eligibility Criteria Remain the Same
Officials have confirmed that the eligibility rules for the Punjab Laptop Scheme will remain unchanged. Students must meet merit requirements like in previous phases. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic performance, ensuring that laptops are awarded to deserving students who have demonstrated strong educational achievements.

Academic Performance Requirements
To qualify, students must be enrolled in a private university in Punjab and have a minimum of 70% marks or an equivalent CGPA in their last examination. Those who already received a laptop in earlier phases are not eligible, maintaining fairness and avoiding duplication of benefits.
Reserved Quotas for Support
The scheme continues to reserve laptops for female students, disabled students, and those from low-income families. Officials say these quotas aim to promote inclusivity and ensure that students with the greatest need for digital access receive proper support for their studies and academic growth.
Bridging the Digital Divide
By including private university students, Punjab aims to reduce inequalities in higher education. The government hopes the laptop scheme will empower students with essential tools for learning, research, and innovation, preparing them for modern academic and professional challenges while fostering fair educational opportunities.
