The incident of suicide bombing occurred at an Imam Bargah in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, and the whole country was shaken because of this terrorist attack. In this attack by the terrorists, innocent worshipers were martyred, and many were injured as well.

Immediate Response by CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz
Subsequent to this tragic event, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took immediate action and suspended all her engagements related to Basant. She said that it is not the right time to celebrate because the nation is in a state of mourning. This move has been taken in order to show solidarity with the families of the martyrs.
The Cancelled Basant Events
Actions reportedly taken by CM Punjab:
- The mega Basant show at Liberty Square, Lahore was cancelled.
- All official Basant celebrations and gatherings were ceased
- For one, the CM did not attend any public or private Basant events.
These were events that had already been scheduled, but given the circumstances of the national tragedy, it was deemed appropriate to cancel them.
Punjab Government Official Position
The Punjab government stated that the move conveys, “a moral and symbolic sense of action against terrorism.”
At this time, the central focus of the government is:

- Peace and security
- Respect for the martyrs Furthermore
The government also clarified that such a move is only temporary and is being made in consideration of the present circumstances.
Is Basant Completely Banned?
Let it be kept in mind that there has been no announcement for the permanent or complete ban on Basant.

- Government-level Basant celebrations
