Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan, stated on Thursday that the country’s IT sector has the potential to increase its exports to $50 billion.
Speaking at an event to celebrate the achievements of Pakistani startups, he stated that it was encouraging to see that Pakistani startups were creating an ecosystem that provided a democratizing experience for online sellers and buyers.
He stated that the government was taking steps to promote the growth of IT sector and startups and ensure their access to low-interest bank loans.
He observed that e-commerce had altered the traditional method of conducting business. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between decision-makers, legislatures, and information technology users.
He went on to say that it has become critical for the developing world to make a quantum leap forward in the age of information technology in order to accelerate their economic progress.
He stated that by utilizing information technology applications, Pakistan could increase its agricultural production.
With the integration of information technology, the entire world had opened up and become a market for Pakistani companies, he continued.
He advocated for increased investment in emerging technologies and startups, in addition to traditional industries.
He emphasized the importance of integrating people into the digital landscape and providing them with the necessary skill sets to benefit from digitalization.
He went on to say that with the help of information technology, people could start small and medium-sized businesses that would grow quickly.
Dr. Alvi stated that Pakistani startups had already made a significant impact on society through their services while also generating significant revenue for themselves.
He stated that if the population was educated, it would become an asset to the country rather than a burden. Working from home allows women to earn a living and contribute to the national economy, he says.
The event was attended by IT sector leaders as well as government representatives.
