Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, would serve as the interim prime minister, according to sources within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) told the news agency.
According to sources speaking to a private news channel, the government committee established to look into the problem is trusting Ishaq Dar’s designation as interim prime minister with all other political parties.
PPP Stance on Ishaq Dar’s Name as Caretaker PM
On the other hand, Ishaq Dar’s name for the position of temporary PM has not been received by his party, according to Central PPP Secretary for Information Faisal Karim Kundi.
“If Ishaq Dar’s name comes in the future then there can be consultations,” Kundi told the news agency. The interim setup will be decided by the PPP leadership, he continued.
“Like PML-N other parties have to also hold consultations on interim setup. There is consultation going on within the party on interim PM but no name has been finalized,” said the PPP leader, who is also an special assistant to prime minister. He added that they will make an announcement as soon as a name is finalized.
Ahsan Iqbal, the federal minister for planning and development, said on the talk show “Naya Pakistan” that Dar might become the interim prime minister if there is widespread support for the choice.
He had stated, however, that no decision about the appointment of an interim prime minister had yet been made in his presence.
Iqbal declared, “Whatever choice is made, the cabinet would be brought into confidence.” The standby agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) must be implemented, but he pledged that an agreement on the nomination of a caretaker prime minister will be reached in the final week of the government’s term.
According to the planning minister, a stable administration with a five-year mandate will be required in the future in order to create a three-year program with the IMF.
“My personal opinion is that we should go through the elections as soon as possible so that a stable government comes and takes the country out of the economic difficulties,” said Iqbal.
A five-person PML-N committee was established earlier this week by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to have discussions regarding the appointment of a caretaker premier and the dissolution of the National Assembly, according to the news agency.
The panel has no representatives from Sindh or Balochistan, despite the fact that those province assemblies will also be dissolved along with the National Assembly next month.
The federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif make up the committee that has been given the job of consulting with the political parties and organizations that make up the current administration.
The committee’s creation has put the consultation process into high gear for the country’s upcoming administrative structure.
