In a significant move to protect the public from rising inflation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially extended the targeted fuel subsidy for another month. This decision is aimed at providing a much-needed financial cushion to those most affected by the recent hike in petroleum prices across Pakistan.
Major Subsidy for Motorcyclists
Under this relief package, motorcyclists will continue to receive a substantial discount of Rs. 100 per litre on petrol. This subsidy is capped at 20 litres per month, effectively putting Rs. 2,000 back into the pockets of millions of low-income commuters and daily wage earners.
Support for Public Transport Operators
To keep travel costs manageable for the general public, the government has extended a massive monthly subsidy of Rs. 100,000 for public transport buses. This intervention is designed to prevent transporters from increasing passenger fares, ensuring that inter-city and local travel remains affordable.
Boosting the Goods Transport Sector
Recognizing the role of logistics in the economy, the Prime Minister has also approved relief for the goods transport sector. Small trucks will receive a subsidy of Rs. 70,000, while large trucks are entitled to Rs. 80,000 per month, helping to stabilize the cost of moving essential goods.
Strict Ban on Fare and Freight Hikes
Alongside the financial assistance, the Prime Minister has issued a stern directive to all relevant authorities to ensure that no transport or freight charges are increased. The government aims to ensure that the benefits of this subsidy are passed directly to the end consumers by maintaining stable prices.
Stabilizing Food Supply Chains
By subsidizing the transport and agricultural logistics sectors, the government hopes to curb the rising prices of daily essentials. This move is expected to prevent a further spike in the cost of milk, vegetables, and other food items, providing indirect relief to every household in the country.
