The World Canal Cities Organisation, with headquarters in Yangzhou, China, has received attention from Pakistan. Ambassador Moin ul Haque of Pakistan expressed interest in joining the World Canal Cities Organisation, which has its headquarters in Yangzhou, China, during his four-day visit there at the invitation of the local administration.
On August 21st to the 24th, 2023, Yangzhou city in China’s Jiangsu province hosted Ambassador Moin ul Haque. The Ambassador spoke at the Opening Ceremony of the World Canal Cities Forum, met with municipal officials, talked shop with local businesses, and toured the Jiangdu neighbourhood and other important infrastructural and agricultural projects while in town. In addition to being briefed on the city’s economic and cultural landscapes, he was given a tour of the city’s many cultural and picturesque places.

At the World Canal Cities Forum’s Opening Ceremony, the Ambassador emphasised the importance of canals as pathways for trade, tourism, and communication. Citing Yangzhou’s historic significance as a key city along the Grand Canal, he gushed over the city’s beautiful scenery and vibrant culture.
The Ambassador continued by describing the Indus River canal system in Pakistan, which is one of the largest in the world and is responsible for watering over 48 million acres of land. He also mentioned Pakistan’s desire to become a member of the World Canal Cities Organisation, which is based in Yangzhou.
Pakistan will benefit
At a meeting with Yangzhou Party Secretary Wang Jinjian and Jiangdu District Party Secretary Lili Zu, the Ambassador praised the cities for their progress and said he was interested in learning from the Chinese model of development, which had helped improve the lives of Chinese people from the bottom up. He emphasised the need of a sister-city relationship with Yangzhou by referencing the preexisting sister-provincial ties between Jiangsu province and Punjab.
Jiangsu, located in Southeast China, is a large province with the second-highest GDP in China and is the birthplace of many prominent Chinese figures, including former President Jiang Zemin.
