Last week, we reported that Chery International’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands will launch new vehicles in Pakistan.
Mr. Ryan Wang, Brand Manager of Omoda and Jaecoo, has now revealed more information about the Omoda E5 EV and Jaecoo J7 PHEV during an exclusive live stream.
Omoda E5 EV and Jaecoo J7 PHEV
The Omoda E5 is a mainstream EV aimed at Gen-Z buyers and a younger demographic due to its styling and features. Meanwhile, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is a luxury off-road SUV aimed at high-end customers.
Chery International claims that the J7 PHEV offers better styling, bigger infotainment screens, improved driver assist features, and better off-roading compared to its competitors, which should give it an advantage in Pakistani market.
Omoda E5 and Pakistan’s Charging Infrastructure
Meanwhile, the Omoda E5 will compete with the MG ZS EV, which has a comparable range and platform to the E5. Due to a lack of electric car charging infrastructure in Pakistan, Omoda will establish charging infrastructure in major cities nationwide.
Price and Launch Details
Pricing details for Pakistan have yet to be finalised. Prices are expected to be competitive, with the Toyota Corolla Cross and Hyundai Santa Fe competing against the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. The Omoda E5 will target the MG ZS EV, which is its closest competitor.
Note that the Omoda E5 will cost around Rs. 1 crore in Malaysia, and the Jaecoo J7 PHEV’s price has yet to be determined. Prices in Pakistan will rise slightly due to duties and taxes.
Mr. Ryan Wang stated that they plan to launch these two vehicles in Pakistan as soon as possible. The exact launch date could be finalised by the second half of 2024.
Chery’s Presence In Pakistan
Ghandhara Automobiles currently assembles and sells two Chery vehicles in Pakistan: the Tiggo 4 Pro and the Tiggo 8 Pro.
Chery International has ambitious plans for the Pakistani market, and rightly so. In 2023, the company’s earnings reached CNY 300 billion.
For the past 21 years, Chery has been China’s largest passenger vehicle exporter, exporting nearly 1 million vehicles in the same year.
