According to data analysed, the number of active Ethereum (ETH) addresses reached a new all-time high (ATH) on December 9.
On the chart above, the blue line represents the active ETH addresses since January 2018. On December 9, the number of active addresses increased to 1.4 million. Prior to this, the previous ATH was just over 1 million at the end of July.
Breakdown
On December 9, analysts discovered massive movements in stablecoins and ERC20 transactions when they examined specific transaction types.
ERC20
Except for contracts in the Stablecoins category, this category includes all transactions that initiate ERC20 contracts. The purple areas on the chart below represent the volume of these transactions.
The data show a visible increase in the number of ERC20 transactions on December 9, which represents a new high for the category. The previous ATH level was just above 20% in early August.
Stablecoins
Stablecoins are fungible tokens whose value is tied to an off-chain asset, either by the issuer or by an algorithm. Over 150 stablecoins are included in this category, with Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Terra Classic (UST), Binance USD (BUSD), and DAI (DAI) being the most prominent.
The size of stablecoin transactions to and from ETH addresses is depicted in the graph above.
Although it did not set a new high, the number of stablecoin transactions increased on the specified date. This category’s ATH was recorded in the second half of May.
Other business transactions
This category includes all other transactions on the ETH network that do not fit into either of the previous categories.
