The Ministry of Industries and Production has pledged full support to Pak-Suzuki Corporation for the development, research, and marketing of biogas as a sustainable energy source in Pakistan. High-Level Meeting Reaffirms Commitment
Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM), recently met with Pak-Suzuki Motors representatives to discuss the biogas project. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the construction of the biogas plant. This project is expected to provide economic opportunities for local farmers while contributing to environmental preservation and reducing carbon emissions.
Biogas: A Solution to Energy Challenges
Khan emphasized that biogas is a viable solution to Pakistan’s energy crisis. By utilizing organic waste, the project aims to alleviate fuel shortages and reduce reliance on imported petroleum. Additionally, biogas production will help cut carbon emissions, aligning with global climate goals. This initiative is a step toward achieving energy independence and environmental sustainability.
Pakistan’s Biogas Potential
Pakistan has immense biogas potential, with an estimated annual production of 8.8-17.2 billion cubic meters from animal dung and agricultural waste. With 170 million cattle, the country could generate approximately 16.3 million cubic meters of biogas daily. This translates to a power potential of 4,761–5,554 MW, significantly contributing to the energy mix.

Current Biogas Production
Currently, only 5,357 biogas plants are operational, producing 20,454 cubic meters per day. However, the country has the capacity to establish 15 million plants. Expanding biogas production could also yield 21 million tonnes of bio-fertilizers annually, boosting agricultural productivity and reducing costs. This dual benefit underscores the project’s importance for Pakistan’s economy.
Aligning with Environmental Goals
The biogas project aligns with Prime Minister’s “Uraan Vision,” which prioritizes environmental cleanliness. Pakistan has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. Reducing Petroleum Imports
